# Serial ports

The serial ports are used to control devices using asynchronous serial communication. The most used are the RS-232 and RS-485 standards.

# Connection

For our tutorial we used the following control system connection. The touch panel and the controller are connected to the same network as the PC running CVC. The controlled device is connected to the serial port 1 on the controller.

# Communication parameters

To prepare serial driver it is necessary to get info about used communication parameters and protocol.

As a sample we shall use the Extron SW-VGA switcher device.
