Using the CUE Solution Setup, you can create a backup of your CUE Solution and restore it from this backup if necessary. Backup files have the **CUEBAC** file extension. The backups are stored by default in the backups subfolder where the website files are stored, typically *YourDisk:\Cue\NameOfYourInstallation\backups*, e.g. ***C:\Cue\Contoso\backups***
However, you can change the folder as you like when creating a backup or restore.

## Procedure

> Macro (excerpt-include)

<details>
<summary>Backup</summary>

- Click the **Backup**.

- Here you can set the name of the backup file and where it will be stored. Keep the extension **CUEBAC**. Then click the **Backup **button.

- When creating a backup, it will ask you if you want to use the best compression possible. This will make the backup file significantly smaller, but the backup can take a very long time, up to several hours. Decide here whether you want to use the best compression.

- Information about the backup progress is displayed in the window. When the backup is complete, click **Finish**.

> ⚠️ **If you are using an external MS SQL Server, now manually create a backup of the database for CUE Solution**. CUE Solution Setup cannot create database backups on external database servers due to access rights.
</details>

<details>
<summary>Restore</summary>

> ⚠️ If the backup was created in an older version of CUE Solution, CUE Solution will be restored to the backup version.
> ⚠️
> ⚠️ If you restore the CUE Solution to an older version that supported a lower major firmware version of the units,** it is possible that units that currently have the higher firmware will be disconnected from the reservation suite**. Therefore, only restore from an older version when absolutely necessary and preferably contact [support@cuesystem.com](mailto:support@cuesystem.com) before doing so.

- Click **Restore from backup**.

- Click **Browse** and select the CUEBAK file. Then click **Restore**.

> ℹ️ If the backup was created in an older version of CUE Solution, CUE Solution will be restored to the backup version.

- Information about the restore progress is displayed in the window. When the restore is complete, click **Finish**.

> ⚠️ **If you are using an external MS SQL Server, now manually restore database for CUE Solution from the backup**. CUE Solution Setup cannot restore database from the backup on external database servers due to access rights.
</details>

After the backup/restore is complete, you can exit the Cue Control Panel.
